I’m a lifelong reader and writer who believes everyone contains great depths and everyone is innately creative.
Growing up, books like A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, The Boxcar Children, Little Women, James and the Giant Peach, and Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man gave me the courage to live my life like the great story I know it to be and the words to tell it.
I worked as a journalist for eight years and as the late great author and screenwriter Nora Ephron said, every writer should have to be a reporter for a while because it teaches you how to tell a story. Specifically, how to get to the point.
I earned a Masters of Fine Arts in creative writing from New York University’s Paris Writer’s Program (you can read more about my experience with that excellent program here). My own creative writing practice includes journaling, constant Notes in my iPhone, essays on Substack, a longtime blog, and I’m currently editing a memoir (and trying to land an agent) and ruminating on an idea for a novel (I’ve already written one). I write from my life, and there’s a lot to say.
I love to share what I’ve learned with others and to teach folks the expressive opportunities offered by creative writing. I have a keen eye and ear for story and I can provide specific craft tips and thoughtful guidance on how to channel what is already within you into a poem, essay, short story, novel that gives people chills. I lead writing salons in-person and virtually, and I offer creative writing coaching and editing services.
